The Blaine City Council unanimously approved a bid from North Pine Aggregate for the Quincy Area street reconstruction project at its May 18 meeting.
The approval includes costs for speed humps requested by residents in the area, though the speed hump item is scheduled for formal consideration June 1.
Engineering Director Dan Schluender said the project covers streets in and around 106th Avenue NE, Quincy Boulevard NE and the Quincy and Monroe neighborhood. It also includes the Quincy Park parking lot, just east of Quincy Boulevard.
The city received six bids May 7, ranging from $3.1 million to $4.1 million. The engineer’s estimate was approximately $3.4 million. North Pine Aggregate, based in Columbus, submitted the low bid of $3.059 million.
The street reconstruction portion of the project, estimated at $2.9 million, will be paid for with pavement management funds, public utility funds and special assessments. The Quincy Park parking lot work will be paid for with approximately $82,000 from the Neighborhood Park Improvement Fund.
With a 10% contingency, the total project budget is approximately $3.4 million, Schluender said.
Council Member Tom Newland said the council had discussed speed humps for the area earlier in the evening and moved forward with including them in the project.
Schluender said the project cost included the speed humps because it was easier to include them in the bid and remove them later if necessary.
