Several cats were rescued and no injuries were reported after a fire damaged a Ramsey home and spread into a large grassy area Sunday, May 3.
Firefighters were called to a structure fire on 157th Lane NW, according to the city of Ramsey. The fire extended to a large grassy area south of the structure.
The Rum River Fire District said crews extinguished the structure fire and rescued several cats from the building with assistance from the Andover, Nowthen and Oak Grove fire departments. Two firefighters immediately treated the cats after they were removed from the home, according to the district.
The Andover Fire Department said its crews were redirected after arriving to help fight a fast-moving grass fire behind the house.
“Command on scene did an outstanding job coordinating resources early, including getting the DNR involved right away,” the department wrote. “With the fire spreading fast, air support was requested as well.”
The department said crews from across the county worked together chasing grass fire hot spots while others focused on the structure itself.
“In the end, both fires were successfully extinguished thanks to a tremendous amount of teamwork, communication and coordination between multiple agencies,” the department wrote. “Great work by everyone involved.”
The city thanked Andover Fire, Anoka-Champlin Fire, Coon Rapids Fire, East Bethel Fire, Elk River Fire, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Ground and Air Fire, Nowthen Fire, Oak Grove Fire, Rogers Fire, Rum River Fire and Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Mounds View Fire for assisting.
The cause of the fire was not immediately available.
