Doctors Council SEIU announced April 13 that its members ratified a first union contract with Allina Health, a three-year agreement covering more than 600 doctors, physician assistants and nurses in primary and urgent care.

According to the union, the contract takes effect immediately and includes greater provider autonomy, safety improvements, fair pay, and protections for parental, medical and family leave. The agreement received more than 90% support during ratification, the union said.

The tentative agreement followed more than 60 bargaining sessions, a one-day unfair labor practice strike in November and a March vote authorizing a longer strike if no deal was reached.

“I’m so proud our group has its first union contract,” Vadnais Heights Clinic’s Dr. Matt Hoffman said in a statement. “It was a long process, but we showed unity and declaration in our push to win improvements for ourselves and our patients.”
